Structural Work
Every lasting structure starts below grade. We pour and finish residential foundations and footings that meet Michigan code and hold for generations.
The Foundation
"Everything above grade is only as good as what's below it."
In Northwest Michigan, foundations face a particular set of challenges: frost depths of 42 inches or more, heavy clay soils in some areas, and seasonal freeze-thaw cycles that work against anything poured or placed incorrectly. We understand these conditions because we work in them every season.
Whether you're building a new home, adding a garage, finishing an outbuilding, or putting an addition on an existing structure, Gerhard & Sons handles the concrete foundation work from forming to finish — done right before anything else goes up.
What's Included
Complete poured-concrete basement walls sized and reinforced for your home's footprint. Properly formed, braced, and finished — ready for waterproofing and backfill.
Crawlspace stem walls and slab-on-grade foundations for homes, garages, and outbuildings. Proper vapor barriers, insulation prep, and drainage considerations built in from the start.
Continuous and isolated footings for home additions, detached garages, sheds, and decks. Sized and placed below frost depth so they don't heave or shift season to season.
We handle the full pour process — form setup, rebar placement, concrete ordering, and stripping. Walls are left plumb and smooth. Slabs are screeded, floated, and finished to spec.
